This book offers an overview of science, math, geography, history,language arts, and more for students preparing for high school. It's packed with facts, of course, but they are tempered with occasional chatty comments that lighten up the subject. Especially interesting are the "Don't make these mistakes anymore!" sidebars, which review sometimes confused or confusing aspects of the subject at hand.
Most subjects are presented on two facing pages, with boxes, lists, and more than a few graphics to break up the text into manageable chunks. The reading is easy but the material is meaty--perfect for use as a study guide to the basics or just to dip into and browse through, which is how my kids use it. There's something of interest in it for everyone, making this book a worthy addition to any student's bookshelf.
I brought my sons home 2-3 years ago out of public school.We have tried several different philosophies, and several different companies, and were not satisfied. I got this book from a friend whose children moved on to college. After reading through it I feel like the weight is lifted off my back as far as my worries as to if my 7th grader would be ready for high school. This year he is in 8th, and we are going to spend the year going through this book, making sure at the end of the year he knows everything in it. We will use it with library books and research on the internet. This is the first book my son actually liked to read. LOVE IT!
